The movie that I have chosen to do a review on is The Art of Racing in the Rain, directed by Simon Curtis. I give this movie a 3.5/5. The reason for my rating is because of its incredible way of playing with the viewers emotions but there are also some things I didn’t love about the film. This movie may have been the hardest I have ever cried while watching a movie. I don’t think this movie was a waste of time to see, and I would recommend it to others. This movie tells a life story about a dog, Enzo, from start to finish. Enzo as a puppy who is sporadically chosen by race car driver Denny, and instantly takes to Denny’s fast-paced lifestyle. Things change dramatically when Denny meets Eve, and they get married. They end up having a daughter and living a rough life financially, because Dennys job is unstable. Unexpectedly, Eve dies from cancer and denny has to battle for custody for his daughter with his wife’s parents. Eventually, he gets custody of her and they start their future life together in Italy, as Denny got a new and incredible job. This movie is great but is definitely predictable. It also does hop around from the main focus of the film throughout many different points. This could get confusing because there is not one main idea. I also thought it was interesting how the title has the word racing in it, but the main focus of the movie is not racing, as there lack many racing scenes. Regarding the visual part of the film, it is a high definition video quality of the Blu-ray that is rather good. Colors are vibrant giving the landscape a beautiful softness and depth while details remain sharp and clean. The racing scenes are incredibly well-done, and they make you feel like you are there, especially with the well-done sound effects of cars whizzing by. Even though I loved this film, I did hope for a better outcome. It was sad how the wife had to die, as well as the dog. But in the end both the father and daughter were extremely happy in their relocation in Italy. I think all the actors and actresses in this movie did an incredible job which helped execute the importance of the film. This movie did originate from the book The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein, which was published in 2008 and made into a movie in 2019.
